To nurture the intellectual, artistic, and professional development of students and community members through rigorous visual arts and design education.
Cleveland Institute of Art (CIA) is an accredited, independent college of art and design founded in 1882. CIA offers 15 majors: Animation, Biomedical Art, Ceramics, Drawing, Game Design, Glass, Graphic Design, Illustration, Industrial Design, Interior Architecture, Jewelry + Metals, Painting, Photography + Video, Printmaking, and Sculpture + Expanded Media.
CIA’s Academic Vision, which we call Cores + Connections, helps students build better futures through community-based learning, real-world projects and social practices in art and design. More than 80% of students participate in one or more internships before graduation.
With a 9:1 student-faculty ratio, students develop strong relationships with CIA’s accomplished faculty members. Students move into their own, personal studio space, next to their peers, when they enter their major. CIA opened a new freshman residence hall in 2014, featuring state of the art apartment-style suites designed with art students in mind.
The college is located in Cleveland’s scenic University Circle neighborhood, home to the city’s world-class museums, orchestra and hospitals. Details at www.cia.edu.
